Tour Overview

The Dolomites are renowned for their stunning beauty with off piste ski slopes that is hard to match. Navigating our way, surrounded by limestone towers and skiing long runs down remote valleys we ski some of the best slopes in the area. What makes this ski holiday even better is the Italian hospitality and the amazing cuisine we experience at the end of each day when we arrive to the luxurious huts!

The tour starts in Cortina where we will spend one day in a ski area getting warmed up before we start the traverse. During the next five days we will be skiing in the remote mountains and staying in mountain huts. We can choose from multiple peaks to ski and adjusting the difficulty to the group’s ability is very easy. On the last day in the mountains we ski all the way down to the lowlands and transfer via taxi back to Cortina.

This area is of great historical importance as it used to be the front line between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian forces during the First World War.
We will see evidence of this through out our tour where there are tunnels, trenches and forts.

Ski touring in the Dolomites should be on everyone’s bucket list!

Preparation meeting in Iceland:
Few weeks before departure, we will have a preparation meeting for the group. It is a great opportunity to ask any questions that might have come up, get good advice regarding equipment and get familiar with your travel buddies.

Day 1: Travel to San Vito di Cadore
The best way to get to San Vito di Cadore is with an international flight to Venice. San Vito di Cadore is just down the valley from Cortina d’Ampezzo and the best way to get there from Venice airport is via taxi or the Cortina Express. In the evening we will go over the journey ahead, pack our backpacks and get to know each other.

Day 2: Off-piste skiing around Cinque Torri
After breakfast we will catch a bus to Passo Falzarago (2105m.) We will ease our selves into the week with some off-piste skiing and lift assisted ski touring in the area around the famous lime stone tower, Cinque Torri. Using the vast lift system we try to hunt down untouched powder slopes where we will give you off-piste ski tips that will be useful for the upcoming days.
At the end of the day we take a lift up to Rifugio Lagazuoi (2752m.) where we will spend the night. The hut sits under Pizzo Lagoazoi where the longest via ferrata in the Dolomites is located, a major front line in the First World War.

Day 3: Rifugio Lagazuoi – Refugio Fanes
The day starts with a great downhill skiing down to Capanna Alpina (1720m). We put our skins on and start the short and steep climb to Col de Locia (2069m). From there the terrain flattens out and the valley opens up giving us great views over tomorrow’s objectives. We will spend the night in Refugio Fanes where we will be met with exceptional hospitality, Italian cousins and red wine.
Ascent: 545 m
Descent: 1170 m

Day 4: Monte Ciase (2894m)
A day tour from the hut gives us the option of leaving excess equipment to have lighter back packs on the ski tour. We aim for skiing Monte Ciase, but there are multiple options from the hut. Monte Ciase offers exceptional ski slopes and will not disappoint powder hungry skiers. After our decent, a short skin will bring us back to Refugio Fanes where we will spend another night.
Ascent: 980 m
Descent: 980 m

Day 5: Refugio Fanes – Sennes hutte
After a heartwarming breakfast we say good bye to Refugio fanes and head up the steep slopes to the mountain pass Forchella Ciamin (2395m). We ski northwest past Pedrú hut. We put our skins again and a two hour hiking brings us up to Sennes hut wehere we stay the next two nights.
Ascent: 1180 m
Descent: 1110 m

Day 6: Muntijela de Sennes (2780)
Another day tour from a hut, we travel with light packs to ski Muntijela de Sennes. From the summit you can see over most of the Dolomites and the slopes are fantastic. We stay another night in the remote Sennes hut.
Ascent: 750 m
Descent: 750 m

Day 7: Sennes hut – Cortina
On our last ski day we have a short ascent to Rifugio Biella and ski all the way down to Lago di Braies. From there we take a taxi back to our hotel.
Ascent: 400 m
Descent: 1000 m

Day 8: Travel day
Time to say goodbye to the big mountains in Berner Oberland and head home. A taxi will take us to Zurick airport.

The best way to get to Cortina is via connecting flight to Venice, dohop.is goes a long way.
The travel time from Venice to Cortina is 2 hours and it is possible to take a taxi or the cortina express bus.

The Cortina Express bus leaves from the airport at this location

    Do you have any questions?

Below are answers to some of the questions we get regarding the tour. If you do not find the answer do not hesitate to contact us

    • I’m a vegetarian/vegan, can special diets be accommodated?

We will ensure that our guests with different dietary needs are looked after.
All huts can offer a vegetarian option but is is important that you let us know in advance so the hut keeper can plan for this.
Vegan option can be difficult to come around. Pleas get in touch with us and we can advice you on the possibilities.

    • What are the huts like?

The huts are often very remote and sitting at high altitude, which means the comfort level is basic. They are clean and cozy and have everything you would wish for an overnight stay.

Most of the huts have a hostel style dormitories where people have their own small space in a bunk bed. The hut provides blankets and pillows so you don´t have to carry a sleeping bag. Most of the time it is possible to charge your phone/camera in the hut but they do not have stable electricity so it is good to bring a power bank to charge your devices.

The hut has a fully functioning kitchen and a bar where you can order lunch from a menu, coffee, cake or beer on tap. The quality of the water varies between huts and we recommend bottled water available for purchase at the hut.

    Testimonials
